I just returned from my annual check up for the old Earth suit. Earlier in the week I went in to have blood drawn so that, perhaps, the doctor could explain to me why I'm 1) so tired, 2) so forgetful, 3) so head-achey, and 4) so prone to gaining weight.
Honestly, I was secretly hoping there was some sort of issue with my thyroid (I know, seems crazy after being so pissed at the vet for wanting to run the same panel on the cat …). Then I could blame my complete lack of will power and utterly pathetic weight gain on an actual "issue" and not just on myself.
Alas, I left the office knowing a few things about myself.
I have gained, yet another, 2 lbs.
My thyroid is functioning perfectly.
It is time to schedule my first mammogram. Because I fall into "that age range."
I have ridiculously high blood pressure, particularly for someone of my "age."
I, conversely, have amazing cholesterol levels. My good cholesterol is the highest the doctor has seen for someone "at my age." I will take responsibility for that as I'm so careful about including good fats in our diet.
My B12 and D are low.
My red blood cells are larger in diameter than a regular person's "my age." I should curb my drinking because it may be affecting my blood.
I need to start reading labels and watching my sodium intake. (How do you read labels on things that don't have labels?)
I should get my eyes checked. That is something that should be pretty regular for "someone my age."
So, I left the office with a prescription (well, 4) for blood pressure meds, a banana a day, my migraine preventative/sleep med, and homework to take my blood pressure twice a day for a week.
I hate feeling like this. Like no matter how hard I work, my body just won't do what I want. Things used to be easy.
Getting old sucks.
