At a Loss

Happy New Years Eve, everyone!!  I will have to post more about our holiday happenings later, but right now I need some assistance.

I'm also having some semi-strange deja vu feelings ... I think I did this same thing a few years ago for a NYE party.

Anyhoodle.

My awesome hubby has agreed, against his better judgement, to take me to the Zac Brown Band concert tonight downtown.  We were trying to get a group together to purchase a limo ride there and back (to deter any drunk driving ... from others ... or us ...) Most of the people we talked to had already booked hotel rooms, so guess who gets to stay in a hotel downtown tonight?!!  Yes!  Me!

(But all you sneaky, no-go-doers, stay away from my house.  My nosey neighbors and mom will be watching you like hawks!!)

OK, so my dilemma.

We are hading down early to watch the UGA game (I think) at Jocks n Jills.  I'm OK with what to wear for this excursion.  Basic jeans with some bling (we are downtown, after all) and my UGA Tshirt.  No problem.

However, I am worried about the dress code for such an event as the country-star-crossover concert.  On New years Eve, no less.

When Tim and I use to see him at Cowboys, we wore jeans and boots ... no one wanted to mess up good shoes by stepping in puddles of beer or sweat on the dance floor.  But this is Philips Arena.

And I mentioned its NYE, right?  The night of all things sparkly?

So what should I do?

Oh, and my ideas on cute heels and such have been squashed, as we are walking 10 blocks back to out hotel after the concert.  (That's a mile, folks.)

At least we won't be standing the entire time of the concert (like at Cowboys).

I have invested in s new pair of skinny jeans (much to Tim's dismay) and a sequin tank top (that I will certainly cover with my wear-it-7-ways Victoria Secret wrap sweater for the 10 block walk "home").  I got a new pair of black boots for Christmas (from the best mommy ever).  But I also got a cute blingy top from said mom.  Hmmm  ... decisions.  Or I could ask my bestest neighbor to borrow something cute ... if we're thinking dressy ...

But I'm not sure dressy is appropriate for ZBB.

Help!

Vacation, My Arse

As we head into our final week of school for the year 2010 (WHAT??  CRAZINESS!), I am faced with a reality -- the reality that the next two weeks (after this one) are going to be tough.  I always think it's funny how my FB buddies are always talking about how awesome Christmas break is -- of course, it's usually the ones who are DINKS (Translation: double income, no kids).  Their days are loaded with Christmas parties with pretty drinks and New Year's Eve festivities with sparkly dresses and new heels.

The life of a mommy is a bit different.  I mean, sure I could still do all of those things -- I could go to Christmas parties, but I'd have to wear something out of my closet ... and we all know how abysmal that is.  I'm still wearing shoes from two years ago, for goodness sake.  And the adult beverages are still an option for me (because I'm NOT PREGNANT, like 98% of my friends), but what fun is an adult beverage if you can't follow it with a few more?  And the morning after head pounding makes all those aformentioned beverages totally not worth it.  As for the New Year's Eve thing, the same rules apply. A  few years ago Tim and I were invited to a NYE party, adults only, and I had to shop for, like, 3 days to find something I thought was suitable.

Which leads me on a completely different tangent -- I'm so out of touch with what's in style.

But that's another blog altogether.

Anyway, so after this week filled with gingerbread making and pajama days at the kids' schools, they will be all mine.  Tim will be at work, Nana will be at work, and I'll be at home.  With the two kids who appear to dislike each other almost as much as I dislike them disliking each other.  I'm OK with the dislike -- it's the constant whining from the boy child and the constant bossing from the girl child.  And it is absolutely freezing outside (wind chill of 8 today), so we'll be stuck inside.

I'm in desperate need of some ideas.  While I'm completely content with DVRing 5,000 movies or letting them play on their iPhones all day long, those are not good options.  Number 1, because then they aren't tired at bedtime.  Number 2, because then I would look like a bad mom.

Oh, and these ideas cannot cost any money.  Because I've gone way over budget on Christmas.  I'm liking the ideas put forth by a fellow blog Mommy.  What do you think?

OK, so I know it's not Friday, but ...

I warned everyone before that, if I should begin to "write" in my little notebooks, that my blog would suffer.

Well, I haven't started writing yet, but I did buy the notebooks ... and the blog is already suffering!  I wish I could say that it's because there hasn't been much going on.  However, it seems there has been a ton happening and I just can't multi-task or compartmentalize.

Anyway, I came across this one in the jumble ...

Brother and Sister
October 2006

This is the first picture I have where the two actually look like they recognize each other.  Like Tanner is saying, "Hey, I know you."  And Kendall is saying, "Well, you are kinda cute -- I guess I'll let the grown-ups keep you around."

This one especially strikes a cord this morning after a day and night of the kids begging to have a sleepover in Kendall's bed last night.  This is the first time they were in a bed together -- other than in mine and Tim's bed when Tanner was a bitty baby and Kendall was a non-sleeper. ;0)  Tanner had woken from his nap, and I was taking a shower.  He wasn't crying, so I didn't rush, but when I got in his room, I found Kendall lying in the crib with him, under his blanket.  When I snapped the photo, Kendall was talking to Tanner in her sweet little voice, "Can you smile for the camewa, Tannewbug?"

I love these two.  I loved them when they were new and squishy.  I loved them when they were toddlers and getting into everything.  I love them when they fight -- with each other and with me.  And I still love the way they look at each other sometimes -- and I know, deep in my heart, they will always be there for each other, in good times and bad.

I'm Writing A Book

I have decided to write a book.

Of course, I have no idea how to actually begin a book, or what I should write about in said book.

Some people have suggested I simply compile my blog posts into a book.  That seems too easy to me, and I'm not even sure if that is something that could be published.  (If it ain't gonna make me any money, then I'll just stick to what I've got going right here on Blogger.)

Others have suggested I write about my experiences of being a mom.  You know, the funny stories and such.

But, again, where do I start?  How do I decide which funny stories go into the book?

And last, some have suggested I write something about the experience of losing my dad.  Kind of like a way to heal and mourn.  This one would take more thought and deep soul searching, but I think I could do it.  But it would certainly be like starting from scratch as I don't have much to work with in the blog.

So what do you think?  I mean, I know I can write it.  If Kate Gosselin and Jenny McCarthy can write and sell books, so can this crazy, anxiety-ridden, half-awake mommy of two.

Thoughts?
